What is eConveyancing?

Land Registry have had intentions to reconfigure the conveyancing process in England and Wales since 1998, in 2002 the Land Registration Act detailed the legislative provisions that will enable the implementation of e-conveyancing services. This initative along with the introduction of HOME INFORMATION PACKS is hoped by government to speed up the buying and selling process and prevent the number of transactions that 'fall through'. Secondary legislation is now needed to formally implement e-conveyancing for England and Wales.

The main aim of these steps is to 'Make conveyancing easier for all' by developing an electronic system of conveyancing that makes buying and selling a property quicker and easier for the general public, licensed conveyancers and other parties involved in the process!

The Land registry vision is to deliver a world-class conveyancing service, where:

  • The worry and risk of the conveyancing process are significantly reduced

  • Authorised parties involved in a conveyancing transaction can exchange information quickly, securely and reliably with each other and Land Registry

  • Registration will be confirmed immediately on completion

  • Up-to-date and accurate information is available on the progress of all linked conveyancing transactions

  • Funds can be transferred immediately, securely and reliably.

  • Land Registry aim to:

  • Transform the conveyancing service in England and Wales and safeguard fair competition

  • Improve the house-buying and selling process for the public

  • Deliver high-quality and accessible services

  • Run e-conveyancing efficiently and effectively

  • Support joined-up government

  • Deliver the e-conveyancing programme on time and within budget.

  • The strategy for the implementation of e-conveyancing in England and Wales can be found HERE, these plans should be implemented in the next couple of years.
